[color=blue]Ventricular assist devices (VADs) are medical devices that are used to support the patient
with either acute or chronic cardiac decompensation. Most often, these devices are implanted
as temporary “bridges” to recovery or transplantation (BTT) [1]. Less commonly, they are
implanted permanently as “destination therapy” (DT) [2]. [/color]
